Workshop: Native & Charcoal Illustration
Pippa McManus is an internationally award winning Australian artist, best know for her fashion illustrations and portraits of flowers painted on beautiful women.
Join Pippa for an evening spent being acutely absorbed by the beauty of Kings Park’s unique flora. You will be led through the process of visually recording the flowers and stems in front of you, marking down their shapes and following the movements of your individual blooms. Using a wet black ink on a large mop brush, your instructor Pippa McManus will help you seek out the negative space on your fine art paper, while using an array of mark making techniques to fill in the detailed segments with dry, soft charcoal. You’ll leave with a beautiful mixed-media artwork of your own making ready for framing, along with an ensemble of skills that can be applied to still life, landscape and portraiture work.
This workshop takes place under the Kings Park Flower Cave, an abundant canopy of native flowers located within Post Restaurant. Entry to the Kings Park Flower Cave is via the grand Postal Hall.
