About “Celebrate the Trees”
In the heart of Western Australia, the Corymbia ficifolia, or Red Flowering Gum, stands as a symbol of resilience and beauty. Originating from a small area on the southern coast, it now graces both urban and wild landscapes with its vibrant summer blooms in shades of red, pink, and cream. Each season, the Corymbia attracts native birds, bees, and pollinators with its nectar-rich flowers, which also support the local honey industry. Known for its drought tolerance and fire resilience, the tree renews itself from protected buds even after bushfires. For thousands of years, Indigenous Australians have used parts of the Corymbia for healing, recognising it as both a guardian and a healer.
Today, the Corymbia ficifolia is celebrated at the State Buildings, where its strength and elegance bring warmth to the festive season. Together with the Kings Park and Botanic Garden, Benara Nurseries, and Fox and Rabbit Premium Flowers, the Corymbia reminds all who see it of nature’s resilience, beauty, and quiet strength. It’s a timeless gift to the people, a vivid flame lighting up both the wild and the city with a story of survival and grace.
