Continuing our commitment to supporting the visual arts through connection and conversation, the State Buildings is proud to welcome Alana Hunt as our next Artist in Residence.

From Friday 13 June, Alana will reside at COMO The Treasury and work from her open studio, for a week.

Visitors are invited to explore the studio, meet the artist, and experience her practice up close, alongside a curated program of public events.

Alana Hunt is an artist and writer exploring the emotional and political dynamics of public and social space. Her long-term, research-driven projects often unfold through video, photography, publishing, and public interventions, shaped by over a decade on Gija and Miriwoong Country in north-west Australia.

Alana’s work critically examines contemporary colonialism in everyday life—across tourism, law, development, and home. Major projects include Surveilling a Crime Scene (2023), A Very Clear Picture (2019–23), and the Kashmir-based Cups of nun chai (2010–20), which was serialised in the Kashmir Reader and later published as a book.

She is the recipient of the 2024 PICA x CAP Commission for A Deceptively Simple Need, and has exhibited across Australia and internationally. Based on Gadigal Country in Sydney, her writing has appeared in Hyperallergic, Meanjin, Artlink, and others.
