Sometimes French, sometimes German—you might think Alsace has a bit of an identity crisis. Nothing could be further from the truth! This border region blends the best of both worlds. Hero grapes like Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, and Pinot Noir each have a distinct regional personality—rich, sumptuous, and expressive.

With its patchwork of diverse soil types and unique climate, Alsace is a sommelier’s dream. While most of the wine production focuses on white grapes, a wide variety of styles – from sparkling to sweet and everything in between, can accommodate almost every taste.

Tasting Notes

Mittnacht Freres Cremant d’Alsace

Made using the Traditional Method (the same as Champagne) with a broader, truly Alsatian collection of grapes – Auxerrois, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Famille Hugel ‘Gentil’

A regional classic from a classic producer. Gentil is the name for a fresh and easy blend of the Noble Grapes of Alsace. Each variety brings a unique character to the wine and the finished product is greater than the sum of its parts.

Jean-Luc Mader Pinot Gris

Mader is a small quantity, high quality producer. Forget everything you know about Pinot Gris! This one is made in the traditional way – think full fruit ripeness, great depth of flavour and smoky spices.

Cave de Turckheim Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is the only red variety permitted under appellation rules in Alsace, so of course it’s the only red wine we’ll be showing at the lunch! Very elegant and restrained, the co-operative producers of Turckheim use only the best available fruit for this wine.
