Masterclass: Sustainability in the Garden
Digby Growns (B (Hort Sci) Hons) is the Senior Plant Breeder at Kings Park and Botanic Garden. He has worked for many years developing Australian native plants for horticulture, and is responsible for the release of over 70 new varieties including the hybrid Chamelaucium ‘Pearlflower’ series, the blue Anigozanthos ‘Masquerade’, and 25 new Grevillea hybrids including the commemorative plant for the Centenary of the ANZAC’s, ‘RSL Spirit of ANZAC’. He manages breeding programs with Anigozanthos, Boronia, Chamelaucium, Corymbia, Eremophila, Eucalyptus, Grevillea, Leptospermum and Scaevola, and leads research into new technology developments in plant tissue culture, biotechnology and plant breeding.
During this hour masterclass, Digby will discuss the development of new resilient plants that focus on delivering positive environmental outcomes for gardens, including providing habitat and a food source for urban fauna and important pollinators, reducing water and fertiliser use, and increasing pest and disease resistance – as well as making your garden look spectacular!
Includes coffee/tea and cake on arrival.
