INTERNATIONAL PINOT NOIR TASTING

Pinot Noir is elusive, temperamental, and legendary – those who indulge, do so for a reason.

This is the grape of great contradiction with a revered, worldly elegance.

In keeping with the infamy behind this variety, we invite you to an unmissable international Pinot Noir tasting, featuring wines from Australia, New Zealand, France, Germany and the USA.

Blind tasting 18 Pinot Noirs, your host and panellist for the afternoon will be none other than Mr Andrew Caillard MW.

Master of Wine, and one of the most authoritative wine experts in Australia, Andrew has been a central figure in shaping the nations fine wine agenda for over 40 years. Culminating in the stunning publication, The Australian Ark, a much lauded 3 volume landmark history of the Australian wine industry, beautifully epic in its content and proportion.

Joining Andrew on the panel will be Beverage Director Trader House Group – Leanne Altmann, alongside Dan and Bill Pannell of the famed Picardy Wines.

Leanne has stamped her mark as a leading sommelier and wine communicator earning multiple awards and qualifications – a Len Evans Scholar, recipient of the Negociants Australia Working with Wine Fellowship, the Ruinart Sommelier Challenge, and the Vin de Champagne Award, not to mention the 2019 Gourmet Traveller Magazine’s Sommelier of the Year.

Dan and Bill Pannell host undeniable West Australian wine pedigree’s, with Bill firmly embedded as one of the pioneers of the Margaret River wine region, establishing Moss Wood vineyard and winery with his wife Sandra, in 1969.

Shifting his focus to the production of Pinot Noir, he began the long and arduous process of delivering top Pinot clones to Australia from Dijon.

Consequent Picardy Pinot Noir now incorporates 11 different clones with many producers around the country utilising cuttings of his special clones.

Bill received the Order of Australia medal for his contribution to the Australian wine industry – spanning over 5 decades.

Working closely with his son Dan who has grown up in the wine industry, completing a Bachelor of Science (Oenology) at The University of Adelaide, he continues to master the family techniques whilst honouring the belief that great wines are made in the vineyard, not the winery.

This is an unmissable afternoon with a blind journey through an exceptional tasting experience, followed by a long lunch to muse over further tasting indulgence.

An afternoon of true Pinot Noir dedication.
